TWO WEEKS LATER….

“NICOLLETTE15” will save you on my SILK TOP and SILK HEADBAND!

Happy Tuesday, sister girls! We’re officially two weeks into my full-time blogging and social media ventures, WA-HOO! 🎉 I feel like I’ve already learned so much. I’ll never stop smiling at the sweet messages rolling in from each of you checking in, seeing how to better support me in this space and just asking how I’m doing. The loving community I’ve built with y’all is what makes this possible. Today I’m sharing what the past few weeks have taught me about myself and running a small business.

I’M A CREATURE OF HABIT

Flying by the seat of my pants is a no-go. Routines are my best friend. If I’m going into the day with no structure, I’m setting myself up for failure. Thankfully my mama continues to watch Braxton and Beckham in the mornings so I can get right into the thick of work . Starting my morning with a run has really kicked me into gear to get the ball rolling vs. having a slow start to the day. While my list of tasks and to-do’s varies, getting started at a set time makes all the difference. I pick up the boys before their naptimes, so I do my best to utilize that time starting and finishing my most pressing tasks.

PRIORITIZING IS A MUST

This is, without a doubt, my biggest challenge. I struggle with quick distractions, like an email or Instagram notification popping up while I’m knee deep in a task. Curiosity gets the best of me and I end up falling down a rabbit hole of working on tasks that weren’t even a ‘today’ priority. I’ve found that hand-written lists and physically marking tasks off is what feels most rewarding, but it’s so different for everyone. My goal is to have this structure “perfected” by my second month of blogging full-time. My biggest tip on this – use a planner, write down set dates and make your plans around that.

SOCIALIZING

In case you couldn’t tell, I’m a big talker. Chatty Cathy over here. My 9-5 had previously kept me on the phone with customers 90% of my day and the other 10% was spent gabbing with my co-workers. I thrive in a social setting. Adjusting to life with no co-workers or direct calls from customers was hard. I spend almost all of my work day behind my computer. All this to say, I really value the social time I get these days. Having Bachelorette Mondays with our friends, joining a (recreational!) golf team and making a conscious effort to say “heck yes!” when social opportunities arise have kept me from falling into a rut.

DO WHAT YOU DON’T WANT TO DO

When running a small business, you wear all the hats. As a creative kinda gal, it’s hard for me to get excited about anything logistical. Reports, numbers, invoices, submitting statistics…. that’s never going to be my jam. I’ve come to realize that knocking these tasks out first, followed by the “fun” tasks, sets me up for success throughout the day.

As always, I cannot thank you all enough for your love and support. This has been such a crazy few weeks, in the best of ways! I’m so thankful to have each of you here and along for the journey!
