If you landed here, you’re probably ready to stop settling and start getting what you’re worth. YAY, glad to have you on board! While I’m chatting about it from a blogging perspective, please hear me when I say, this applies to all aspects of your life. When getting started, it was exciting as all get out to score free product. I dreamed of the day brands offered to compensate for my collaborations. Guess what? It doesn’t just happen. It won’t fall in your lap. No one is going to offer you your worth if YOU aren’t sure of it! Ready to take charge and start owning your worth? Cool, you’re in the right place. Let’s go!

SHOW THE BENEFITS

Educate the client on why you’re worth the investment. Brands pay for print and media ads on a daily basis. Why should your feed be any different? You work insanely hard to establish trust and community within your follower base. They value your opinion, your creativity and passion behind what you’re sharing. Clearly brands see this value, otherwise they wouldn’t be seeking your partnership! Have your media kit ready to go, but also ready for edits. Be prepared to update your audience demographics, past partnerships, important stats and additional rate packages based on their ask.

KNOW THE VALUE OF TIME

Deep dive on the details before accepting a partnership so you don’t miss a single expectation when evaluating the payout. I always default to a minimum of 5 hours for each campaign. Between photos, video content, edits, presets, captions, brand approval, actual posting day, etc… Your time is money, so don’t be shy to ask for it. One of my favorite lifestyle bloggers, Emily, is always super transparent with her tips. She shared a really great Tip Tuesday about increasing your rates for quick turnaround times on campaigns, too.

KNOW YOURSELF

This sounds super simple, but sometimes we’re really put to the test. Someone offering a great payout doesn’t make it a great fit. I’ve passed up awesome partnerships because, no matter how long I think on it, I can’t make them fit with my feed. They aren’t useful to my following, so why share it? The brand won’t get the results they’re anticipating and your followers will fully sense the product feeling inauthentic to your brand. We work too hard to earn the trust of our community in this space. Don’t jeopardize it for a one-time payout!

I could go on with this topic all day long, but I’m thinking I’ll put together another post with more details on how to actually establish your ask with partnerships. Fellow bloggers, what am I skipping? Non-bloggers, I’d love to hear your thoughts on establishing and demanding your worth in other aspects!
